Publicity – Let’s use the Airwaves!

This is an official call for volunteers to get active in the PR for the wonderful work you are all making for Still Life With…

Martina at Wired FM is very supportive & keen to have us produce a short radio segment that will inform students, staff & the wider community of the project you are all engaged with. So I would like to get a small group of people together to create such a radio show.

If you are interested I would like you to comment on this post & put yourself forward. As you know Denis will be on Campus this Thursday, so consider what kind of radio PR you would like to do? Ask yourself a few questions:

Will you interview Denis? If so, what will you ask? How do you want to inform your audience? What would you like people to know? Will you interview or get feedback from your peers working on Still Life With…? Will you ask them about their own personal research & how this relates (or not) to the Still Life With… project? Will you talk to Staff? etc.

I would like all of you who are interested to come in prepared on Thursday to begin the making of this radio segment – you will definitely need to consider what you might like to talk to Denis about, as he will only be around for the day. Have an A4 page with some ideas/questions for how the radio segment might run.

This will be a really great opportunity for you all to broaden your own understanding of Radio, and of Audio production, with the support of Wired FM – so I’m looking forward to getting a good response!

Blogging Guideline & Requirements

As part of the Education Elective you are required to engage with the possibilities for shared learning through the use of Web 2.0 technology, namely ‘Blogging’. It is vital that all students on the Education Elective participate in the use of the Blog, like any functioning team it is a sum of its parts & therefore needs to be equally activated by all members of the Education Elective.
For simplicity I’m giving you a few guidelines as to ‘how much’ you are individually required to do. You are required to:

  • Post ideas in relation to your Education Project. (At least 5 posts)
  • Upload images & reflections upon Studio work in the making of Still Life With… (At least 5 images) – it would be good if you could embed Flickr galleries, take the initiative & find out how to do this!
  • Upload/Embed videos which are relevant to your Education Project, to the Still Life With… project, or to your own personal interests in Art Making & Education (At least 2 videos of quality & relevant content)
  • Respond to each other’s posts through ‘Comments’.
  • Respond to Questions by elaborating & explaining your ideas – for example, if a staff member posts relevant information on the blog specifically in relation to a students interests, don’t simply say ‘thank you’, be generous, elaborate & respond – extend a conversation.

The use of this blog is an experiment to explore the possible benefits of using Web 2.0 technology as part of a teaching & learning methodology – this is a methodology that you might consider for use in your own Classroom.
Be sure to email me or to ask questions via the Blog if you are unsure of anything – the main thing is to get active, and to learn as you go. Have fun!

Orange/ Lemon Texture

Hi Anne and Denis,

We’ve been working on the texture of the orange and lemons and have decided to work together as both fruits have very similiar textures. We’re experimenting with lots of different materials at the moment (wax pellets, styrofoam balls, foods such as pasta, cous-cous…even rice krispies!). We’re using PVA as a binding agent and have found a nice natural varnish using sugar.  We’ve also found that emulsion is necessary when painting with acrylic paint onto a waxy surface.

We unsure as to what slant to take on the planet ‘take’ on the orange. Our finished texture will resemble an orange (fingers crossed) but we’ve decided against having craters like Mars on the surface. We’re talking about painting a map of the world onto the surface of the orange? Just wondering what you think of this? It could give the mottled look that you were talking about if used with browny, rustic colours? Have a look at the pictures and let us know what you think.

Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Eleanor…from orange group 🙂

I tried to upload some pictures there..don’t know where they’ve disappeared to, will try upload them again sorry!
