Just found this – thought it might give us some ideas for those wonderful grapes? Newspaper is great because it is easy to cut once hardened in papier mache & so if we want to combine grapes, so that they’re intersecting or anything like that, using papier mache is a possibility. Anybody had any more thoughts on surface possibilities? I was thinking about it & I remember using a ‘frosting’ spray once, it’s like spray glue, but it’s for making glass surfaces ‘frosted’ (so you can’t see through them) – it could be effective for the kind of dull misty look that grapes have sometimes… depending on what mood their in of course… any thoughts?

As many of you might have noticed from last Thursday’s session, I’ve introduced an Audio aspect to the already diverse media resources involved in the great fruit construction of 2010. So here’s my pitch – I would like to mentor a small team of you intrepid teachers-in-the making who might like to take a mixed/multi-media approach to your Education Project. Perhaps some of you would be interested in using Audio or Story telling or Interview in some way in your teaching & learning in the classroom?
I propose that we get together this Thursday (during some part of the normal studio session) and begin to tease out some of the possibilities for using Audio (and indeed video or animation) within this projecct Still Life With… and importantly within your own teaching & learning for the future. I’ve been chatting to Martina of the famed Wired FM & she would be delighted to train us in to the use of the Radio equipment & editing etc. I have a lots of experience in this area too, as well as some experience in video & animation, and I think that this would be a very exciting avenue to explore as part of Still Life With… and especially as part of your own Ed. Projects.
I propose that we could initially draw up a plan for a short Radio segment(s) (pre-recorded during studio times) – this could involve interviews with fellow students, with Limerick City Gallery, with The Hunt Museum, with Staff, with the Artists – it could involve Vox Pops across the college, it could involve ambient recordings from the Studio sessions, etc. I think the first thing is to get a small team together who are interested and then toegether we can make a plan for how we would like to approach using Audio Creatively within this project & within your own Teaching for the Future.
Please consider this option – I think it will be really good fun & a great way for you to gain new skills, and/or to develop skills in audio editing, interviewing, & creative approaches to sound. We can also pull in visuals to collaborate with our sound recordings, either through video or through animation, and this would be of great benefit to you for the future as a teacher.
I’ll be Studio with you all on Thursday so I’ll be calling for people to join with me for about 15 mins on that day for a brainstorm & to plan our approach, and get sounding!
Looking forward to it,
Jessica
PS: On Thursday I’ll be on hand to give everyone a tutorial in how to use the Blog – this is a definite part of the assessment (in that participation is required) & we want to see everyone using the blog in some way to develop conversations, share knowledge & ask questions – you won’t know how beneficial it could be until you start using it! (Trust me!)
